A residential fire north of La Center displaced two people Friday afternoon.

Clark County Fire & Rescue Crews were dispatched at 2:25 p.m. to 36525 N.W. Jenny Creek Road. The initial call came in as some trees being on fire, so firefighters were expecting a wildland fire, Chief John Nohr said.

Instead, the first arriving crew found a ranch-style, manufactured home engulfed in flames.

More units were called in to help with extinguishing the blaze as firefighters began to douse the flames from outside the house, according to a news release from the fire agency. An attack from the exterior was the safest course of action due to the intensity of the fire and the damage it had already caused to the home, the news release says.

After crews knocked down the blaze and prepared to search for potential victims, a neighbor reported that the people who live there were likely not home; none of the usual vehicles were there, the fire agency said.

The main body of fire was under control after about 45 minutes. Crews were still on scene as of 5 p.m., cleaning up.

Five engines, a ladder truck and two water tenders responded. Clark County Fire & Rescue was assisted by firefighters from Clark County Fire District 10 and Cowlitz County Fire District 1.

The Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.

The Red Cross was called in to help the displaced residents.
