A 48-year-old La Center man was arrested Monday on suspicion of making anti-Semitic threats against his neighbor.
Mathias Douglas Kane faces charges of cyberstalking and two counts of interstate threats, according to a U.S. Attorney’s Office Western District of Washington news release.
Kane was arrested late Monday without incident outside of his home, prosecutors said. He was scheduled to make a court appearance Tuesday in Tacoma.
Kane made threats online against the neighbor, who took in Kane’s 13-year-old child when they needed a place to live, according to a criminal complaint. In January, Kane posted personal information online about his neighbor and threatened to harm her, the complaint says.
“Kane posted anti-Semitic comments and threatened to harm state Child Protective Services workers, members of law enforcement and Jews. Kane identified himself as a White Nationalist and used a screenname and images involving Nazi symbols,” the news release says.
Law enforcement contacted Kane on two occasions about his access to weapons. He denied possessing any firearms, but refused to let the officers search his home, prosecutors said.
Authorities’ request for a search were prompted by multiple posts from Kane stating that he manufactured guns and ammo. However, a search of the home Monday did not uncover any weapons.
Cyberstalking and making interstate threats are both punishable by up to five years in prison.
The case is being investigated by the FBI with assistance from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and the La Center Police Department.
