COVID-19 alters format of Couve Clover Run

The sixth annual Couve Clover Run will be a virtual event this year.

Runners will not gather March 22 in downtown Vancouver to follow established 3-, 7- or 10-mile routes, followed by festive pub gatherings. Instead, walkers and runners will cover the distance on their own or in small groups that day and share photos and videos online, said Sherri McMillan, owner of WHY Racing Events, which organizes the run. Runners will be on the honor system to report their times.

Given that Vancouver is part of the Portland metro area, McMillan said, the race decided to heed Oregon Gov. Kate Brown’s ban on events of 250 or more people. Then, on Thursday, Clark County Public Health also recommended limiting large events.

As of Thursday, 1,450 participants had registered for Couve Clover Run, which has drawn about 1,800 runners in past years. Participants will still receive shirts, swag and medals.
