A seventh winery is coming to The Waterfront Vancouver, furthering its status as a wine-tasting hub.
Richland-based Barnard Griffin Winery announced it is opening a tasting room in the Rediviva building. It will be the seventh winery to come to the four waterfront buildings and the sixth tasting-room location; Pepper Bridge Winery and Amavi Cellars share a tasting room, also in the Rediviva building.
The plans are in its infancy, said Barbara Griffin, co-owner of Barnard Griffin. She said the owner of the building, Gramor Development, told her it should be ready in the fall.
“I’m really looking forward to expanding our market base,” Barnard said. “(The Waterfront Vancouver) is new. It’s vibrant. It’s close to major population areas.”
Barnard Griffin operates its flagship tasting room and restaurant in Richland. Rob Griffin and Deborah Barnard founded it in 1983.
Next door to Rediviva, Airfield Estates is holding its grand opening for its new tasting room on Saturday in the RiverWest building. The Pepper Bridge Winery and Amavi Cellars tasting room opened in November, and the Maryhill Winery in the Don Building opened in April of last year.
The Barnard Griffin Winery will take up the northeast corner of the Rediviva building’s ground floor. Brian Carter Cellars is set to anchor the building’s southeast corner. In the Kirkland Tower, Naked Winery will also have a tasting room.
About half of Barnard Griffin’s wine grapes come from the company’s estate vineyard, called Caroway. Some of its stock comes from other vineyards in Washington.
Wine prices range from $7 (packaged in cans) to $55 for a bottle of its highest-grade cabernet sauvignon, according to its website.
The winery doesn’t distribute its limited-reserve wines, so opening a satellite location allows those products to reach more customers, Barnard said.
Barnard also has a fused-glass art studio on the Barnard Griffin campus in Richland called db Studio.
