In the Community: High school tennis gear event set for Sunday

Sunday is the day for high school girls to gear up for the tennis season.

The Vancouver Tennis Center Foundation is hosting a free tennis gear giveaway from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the Vancouver Tennis Center, 5300 E. 18th Street in Vancouver, next to Fort Vancouver High School.

The event is open to all girls participating in tennis for Clark County schools and their coaches.

The event offers gently used or new gear, and VTC is always accepting tennis gear donations for the event. Drop off equipment at the VTC front desk by Saturday, March 7, to be included in the Sunday event.

Players can also bring in their racquet and get a new grip or get racquet sizing by one of the pros at VTC and event do a racquet trade in.

NHL Black History Museum visits Portland

The National Hockey League Black Hockey History Tour will make an appearance in Portland on Wednesday (March 4) at the Rose Quarter.

This uniquely curated mobile museum celebrates today’s NHL stars, while also looking back at the pioneers who helped shape NHL history. Portland is the only non-NHL city the bus is stopping in.

The mobile museum will be open to the public from 2-7 p.m. Admission is free.

The bus museum will be parked between the Moda Center and Memorial Coliseum with the Portland Winterhawks and Portland Trail Blazers having home games that evening.

The Winterhawks will feature former Winterhawk and current Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Seth Jones, former Winterhawks first black captain Keegan Iverson and current Winterhawk Kishaun Gervias inside the mobile museum.

Senior softball league taking registrations

The Vancouver Metro Senior Softball Association (VMSSA) is accepting applications for the upcoming summer season.

The 60-and-older league is May through August.

This is a recreational league for men and women designed so that each team can be competitive and still have fun.

All of the games are played at Pacific Park, N.E. 172nd Ave and N.E. 18th Street. Games are played each week night with a doubleheader starting at 5:30 p.m.

Fee is $60, and deadline to register is March 16.
