Nonprofit homeless service provider Share received a $50,000 grant from the KMR Group Foundation to help pay for the remodel of its two family shelters.
“We are proud to be part of this astounding organization. Share has helped so many people in our community,” Kate Jones, executive director of KMR Group, said in a news release. “It is a huge relief to know that this safety net is now solidly in place for the people who need it the most.”
New features at Share Homestead in Hazel Dell and Share Orchards Inn include two private restrooms with showers, adjoining room doors for larger families, new HVAC and plumbing, outside client storage space as well as private and semi-private common spaces. Vancouver Housing Authority owns both buildings and is overseeing the remodeling work. Community tours will be scheduled when it’s complete.
“We are extremely grateful to Kate Jones and Marty Rifkin for a vital grant to assist in the remodel of Share Homestead and Share Orchards Inn, Share’s family shelters. Both facilities have experienced extensive, continuous use over the past 25 years serving an estimated 5,000 families,” Diane McWithey, Share’s executive director, said in the news release. “The remodels will allow the shelters to serve additional families while offering a welcoming environment for common spaces such as the dining room, day use area and play area. The shelters will also benefit through efficiencies in the layout of the kitchens, which annually prepare and serve more than 33,000 meals.”
