The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is reminding people that if someone calls claiming you or a family member has a warrant and demands money, it’s a scam.
The sheriff’s office said in an alert Tuesday that it wanted to inform and educate the public about such scams “currently being proliferated throughout the area.”
Victims have reported receiving calls from a person stating there is a warrant through the sheriff’s office and they will take prepaid gift cards as payment.
“Regardless of the name or title the caller uses, it’s a SCAM,” the alert says.
Deputies will not ask for cash in person or to meet somewhere to pay cash to alleviate an arrest warrant. They may call and ask to meet in person to facilitate an interview or arrest.
The sheriff’s office also noted that people should be wary of someone calling and claiming they have your application to a job you did not apply for and want your personal information or to send you a check to cash and buy some equipment to get started. That’s also a scam.
