Vancouver-based Tidewater Barge Lines Inc. has been named as one of nine recipients of a round of funding from America’s Marine Highway Program, which is run by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration.
The Marine Highway Program is intended to promote increased use of the country’s navigable waterways to decrease land-based transportation congestion.
The $3.2 million grant to Tidewater, announced Monday, will support an expansion of barge services from the Port of Morrow in Boardman, Ore., to the Port of Vancouver. The funding will go in part to the procurement of a new barge for the corridor capable of handling a combination of containers.
