The city of Ridgefield will purchase property for $3.8 million to house its Public Works Department.

On Thursday, the city council unanimously approved the purchase of the property at 487 S. 56th Place. The 4.39-acre property includes a 23,000-square-foot warehouse and 5,000-square-foot, two-story office building.

A 2013 study found that the Public Works Department needed a larger operations facility. City officials became aware of the property in December.

The sale is scheduled to close on or before July 20. The current property owner, Nanken LLC, has a lease with a commercial tenant through August. City officials plan to negotiate a lease extension as the tenant and city prepare to move.

After the lease expires, all public works employees plan to relocate to the site.
