NORTHWEST VANCOUVER — Four-year-old Remington Mains and his father, Jim Mains, constructed a memorial at their home, 4616 N.W. Franklin St., for lives lost due to COVID-19. The two tied green ribbons to the fence in front of their home to represent a life lost. On the first day they started, Washington had reported 132 deaths, Jim Mains said. Now, there are more than 1,100 deaths. The home is known for its seasonal decorations. “The display has taken on many new elements. We have added messages thanking our front-liners. We placed 50 flags from around the world, each country represented is fighting the virus with us,” Mains said. Mains plans to continue adding ribbons each day that new numbers come out from the state. Follow the updates at Facebook.com/Holidaysonfranklin. “We are looking forward to the day when we don’t have to add any,” Mains said.
