Monday was another gloomy day in June, which is no surprise given the weather pattern we are stuck in right now. More moderate rain was expected Monday night and into early today, breaking into showers this afternoon. A half-inch in the rain gauges around town today, maybe more. Some of the moisture is arriving from northeast of Hawaii. Pineapple slices anyone?
Showers stay in the forecast Wednesday and the driest day this week is most likely Thursday. Another cold trough of low pressure settles in this weekend with more snow in the mountains. Even colder air may bring wet snow down to the Cascade passes. I keep telling myself this is June and things will get better.
Looking ahead, however, most all computer forecast models indicate wet and cold weather to linger the remaining days of June. Wow. Good news for holding off the wildfire season for sure. We always joke around here that summer doesn’t usually kick in until July 5 anyway so we have a way to go if we follow any sort of normalcy.
I know the rainfall amounts vary greatly depending on those intense showers late last week. Officially as of 5 p.m. Monday, Vancouver had 1.32 inches in the rain gauge for the month, which is three-quarters of an inch above average. Normally we expect 1.79 inches for June rainfall.
