Vancouver-based steel pipe maker Northwest Pipe Company announced Monday that it has been given clearance to restart operations at one of its manufacturing plants in San Luis Rio Colorado, Mexico.

The company was ordered to shut down operations at the plant in early April as part of a local measure aimed at slowing the COVID-19 pandemic. Northwest Pipe’s other nine facilities, all of which are in the United States, were allowed to continue operating as essential businesses.

The San Luis Rio Colorado facility will initially be restricted to operating at 30 percent capacity, and the company will need to continue practicing various COVID-19 safety protocols. Northwest Pipe said in a press release that it expects to receive authorization for a return to full production as part of a phased reopening over the next two months.

Northwest Pipe primarily manufactures spiral-welded steel pressure pipe for use in water transmission systems, as well as reinforced concrete pipe for applications like stormwater systems.
