CLARK COUNTY — It’s been 40 years since Vancouver resident Shelley (Bakshas) Walker witnessed the eruption of the active volcano that sits just north of Clark County: Mount St. Helens.

“I remember my mom saying, ‘Take a good look. You may never see anything like this again in your lifetime,'” she said in an email.

Her father, Jerry Bakshas, shot photos from the destructive event on May 18, 1980, “from the lookout point off the I-5 freeway north of Vancouver.”
