Wednesday was about as average as you could get for this time of the year. A high of 80 degrees is spot on, although we usually don’t have as much morning cloudiness in July. We could have some of that today and with a cooler air mass. I am expecting highs only in the 70s. Friday a copycat day.
This weekend we shift gears back to summer with another brief hot spell Sunday through Tuesday. We will add the fifth, sixth and perhaps seventh day of highs at or above 90 degrees this summer. Hot enough for you? It could reach 98 degrees or maybe a 100 here and there — if we get a slight east wind.
And then again, it could remain in the mid-90s if we don’t develop an offshore flow of air. The highest so far this season is 94 degrees. We should surpass that easily as I see things right now writing my column. The extended outlook, as you know, is always subject to change.
If you want to cool off head to the ocean beaches, where a sea breeze will be present and highs in the pleasant 65- to 70-degree range. Plus or minus depending on location. The coast has been socked in with plenty of low clouds and fog to varying degrees so far this week. There has been some clearing at times between bouts of drizzle. Average for summer beach fare.
