Clark County Public Health reported 28 new positive COVID-19 cases on Thursday and no new deaths.

The additional cases brings the county’s total to 1,605 confirmed cases to date. So far, 37 people have died as a result of COVID-19, according to Public Health.

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 rose to 21 on Thursday, and the number of those hospitalized awaiting results fell to 10.

The new numbers come as the county has been seeing an increasing number of positive results in COVID-19 tests.

In the week ending July 11, the most recent data available, 5.33 percent of COVID-19 tests were positive, up from 3.18 percent the week before and over the goal of 2 percent or less positive.

The last time Clark County had positive test result rates below 1.37 percent was the week ending June 20, according to Public Health.

The state’s goal is 50 tests for every positive case, which would mean the county would need to have conducted 13,000 tests during the week of July 11 to match that standard. During that week, 4,874 people were tested.

The county’s infection rate, which measures two weeks worth of positive tests per 100,000 population, is at 99.7. That is nearly four times more than allowed if the county were applying for more relaxed restrictions under the state’s reopening plan.

The county had applied for Phase 3 status on June 26, but the state initially put all applications on pause as COVID-19 cases surged and recently returned the county’s application.

As of Tuesday, across the state there were 49,247 cases and 1,468 deaths from the disease, along with some 5,200 hospitalizations.
