Clark County Public Health reported 40 new cases of COVID-19 early Tuesday afternoon, along with one new death attributed to the virus.
The death was a person 80 years or older. No other information was available.
The county has 1,566 confirmed cases and 38 deaths since the first cases of COVID-19 were reported in March. As of Monday, the two-week rate of new cases per 100,000 population in Clark County had jumped to 99.7. Public Health will calculate the rate of cases once per week going forward, rather than using the state’s calculation. The two-week period starts six days prior to the current date to account for a lag in reporting, according the Public Health’s website.
Currently, 18 people are hospitalized in Clark County for COVID-19, with another 11 people in a hospital under investigation. Between PeaceHealth Southwest and Legacy Salmon Creek medical centers, 57.3 percent of beds are occupied, 4.6 percent with COVID-19 patients and individuals waiting on test results.
On Monday, Washington State Secretary of Health John Wiesman announced that he is returning all COVID-19 “Safe Start” applications, including Clark County’s, which had been put on pause as the number of cases surged statewide. Clark County is currently in Phase 2 and had been seeking to move to Phase 3.
