Letter: Wrong people are targeted

Why is it a crime for the Battle Ground pet groomer to defy the stay-home order? She is charged with a single count of violating an emergency order proclamation (“Pet groomer accused of defying stay-home order,” The Columbian, June 26).

What about when protesters and rioters are allowed, or even encouraged, to flout the stay-home, mask, and social distancing orders? It is another situation where politicians pick and choose those to prosecute according to their political affiliation.

We let criminals out of jail that are at risk of COVID, putting them out on the streets. If they committed crimes, who thinks they will follow the COVID edicts enacted by our governor? Again, the wrong people are targeted for not obeying. Just love those road signs reminding us to “Obey …” Gee, what type of person is not going to follow that guidance? Yup, we are not allowed to speculate on that either.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
