A man from Battle Ground died after being hit by a vehicle Wednesday night in north Clark County.

The victim, identified as Jordan A. Soliday, 23, was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. He died around 5:30 this morning.

Clark County sheriff’s deputies and medics were dispatched at 11:49 p.m. to a crash involving a vehicle and pedestrian in the 12700 block of Northeast 359th Street.

First responders found Soliday lying in the road, according to a sheriff’s office news release. He had been struck by a westbound Ford Transit work van on 359th Street — a 50-mph, two-lane rural road with no shoulder — north of Battle Ground.

The driver, identified as 57-year-old Aleksandr Kechik of Brush Prairie, said Soliday crossed directly into his path from the south side of the road, the sheriff’s office said.

Kechik and a passerby provided aid to the man until medics arrived.

Kechik provided a statement to deputies and remained at the scene. He was not arrested nor was he issued any citations.

Traffic unit deputies are actively investigating the crash.
