The Vancouver Police Department said that it and Evergreen High School were the topic of a fake news release circulating on Snapchat and Facebook.

The department reported early Tuesday morning that it had been made aware of the fake news release at about 10 p.m.

The fake news release claimed that the department arrested two juveniles who had supposedly made threats of a school shooting at Evergreen High School.
There are no known credible threats toward the school, according to the police department.

Investigators worked with Evergreen Public Schools security and several other reporting parties to trace the fake news release back to a juvenile who admitted to creating it and sending it to another person.

The juvenile said that the other person took a screen shot of the fake news release and shared it without their knowledge or permission on social media.

“(Vancouver Police) did a great job quickly tracking down the source and declaring it wasn’t a valid threat,” district spokeswoman Gail Spolar said.
