CENTRAL PARK — Eighty-five people attended a Jan. 11 celebration at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry that highlighted an award received by the Clark County Department of Community Services. The department won a Visionary Excellence Since 2000 award. The 20th anniversary lunch program which featured exhibits was hosted by Great Life Mentoring, described in a news release as an “innovative and replicable intervention that utilizes trained community volunteers as mentors to enhance mental health outcomes for youth from low-resource families.” It was founded in 2000 by Elizabeth Higley in a partnership between the Clark County Department of Community Services and Columbia River Mental Health.
