Vancouver police and firefighters responded late Wednesday afternoon to a residence in the Carter Park neighborhood after a man allegedly barricaded himself inside and set fire to the home.
Police were dispatched about 4 p.m. to the 3200 block of Northwest Division Avenue for a restraining order violation. Officers spoke with a man inside the residence, who was in violation of the restraining order, and he refused to leave the home, according to a news release from the Vancouver Police Department.
The man ignored repeated commands to come out, and at about 5:20 p.m., officers saw flames inside the home. It appeared the man had started a fire, the news release states.
Fire crews responded minutes later. Police shut down nearby roads, which included Division Avenue and 32nd and 33rd streets, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.
