Letter: Numerical curiosities for an NBA icon

David Joel Stern served as the commissioner of the National Basketball Association from 1984 to 2014. He died on Jan. 1, 2020.

I prepared these numerical curiosities in his honor:

1. Stern died on 1/01/2020 and if split as 101 and 2020, half of the reverse of 2020, namely 202, yields 101.

2. Stern died on 1/01, 101 days after his 77th birthday.

3. Moreover, each year contains 101 days from Stern’s birthday onwards.

4. Stern’s 77th birthday was the 265th day of 2019, and he died 265 days before his 78th birthday.

5. Stern was born on 9/22/1942; if split as 922 and 1942, 1942 = 2 x 971, 971 is the 164th prime number, the reverse of 164 is 461, and 2 x 461 = 922.

6. Additionally, 9221942 = 2 x 23 x 29 x 31 x 223 and 2 + 23 + 29 + 31 + 223 = 308 = 4 x 77, Stern was 77.

7. Furthermore, 2, 23, 29, 31, and 223 are the 1st, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 48th prime numbers and 1 + 9 + 10 + 11 + 48 = 79 and 2 x 79 = 158. The sum of the letter numbers of David Joel Stern equals 158, too.

8. Lastly, 158 = 2 x 79, 2 and 79 differ by 77.

I hope you rest in peace, David Stern. Amen.
