RIDGEFIELD — North Main Avenue, where Gee Creek flows under the road at Ridgefield’s northwest tip, is open to traffic.
Barricades were removed Tuesday near North Depot Street and the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge, which means that drivers will no longer need to detour to Northwest 289th/291st Street to access the refuge’s Carty Unit.
The road had been closed since early July so construction crews could replace the 10-foot culvert for Gee Creek with a much larger 40-foot arch culvert.
The larger culvert will allow more water to flow under the road, especially during heavy rainstorms. In the past, North Main Avenue would flood during heavy, prolonged rains.
A new sidewalk was poured this week and is covered by plastic so pedestrians will have to wait a little bit longer while the concrete cures.
