The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission approved a $1.35 billion sale of Frontier Communications Northwest Inc., one of the largest local phone companies in the state.

The buyers, Wave Division Capital and Northwest Fiber LLC, also agreed to spend at least $50 million in Washington to increase broadband coverage, support the statewide transition to Enhanced 911 and report on financial and service quality measures, according to a news release on Wednesday from the UTC.

“The commission determined that the settlement is in the public interest by ensuring that customers will continue to have access to services on which they depend,” the news release stated.
