The Chieftains bounced back from an upset to Woodland on Saturday to eliminate Washougal from the 2A district tournament on Tuesday.

“We played better defense tonight, solid shooting and balanced scoring,” Columbia River coach David Long said. “It was nice to bounce back. We just didn’t get the job done on Saturday.”

Nate Snook, Josh Kukula and Dylan Valdez each scored 14 points and Michael Foust had 13 for the Chieftains (17-4).

Kukula opened the game up for Columbia River with four 3-pointers in the second quarter.

“That got (Washougal) out of their zone defense,” Long said. “(Kukula) had good looks and made them.”

Next for the 2A Greater St. Helens League champs is a loser-out game against Black Hills (17-5) at 6 p.m. Thursday at Tumwater High School.
