Saturday was a gloomy day with the low-hanging clouds and rain. A good day to be indoors by the fireplace. That’s where my little pooch was all day. She didn’t go far out the door to relieve herself. Snow was falling in the mountains, with a foot or two of new powder expected by sunrise Monday. A great day to hit the slopes on Presidents Day, for sure.
As of 5 p.m. Saturday, about a quarter-inch of rain was measured in Vancouver, and more in the foothills. Our afternoon temperatures struggled to remain in the mid-40s, way below average. The monthly rainfall total so far as of Saturday in Vancouver was 1.75 inches, about 1 1/2 inches below average.
We got that bump of rain last month, but now we are coasting along as usual. With dry weather set to begin Monday and perhaps lasting until Friday, we sink deeper and deeper in the rainfall deficit. Yes, we will see some sunshine, maybe frost overnight and highs in the low 50s. If we get an east wind, the temperatures could rise further.
A nice dry spell — no complaints, please. Hopefully we get no surprises from weather systems skirting by to the north. Let’s hope they look the other way.
