Fire destroyed two shop buildings Thursday evening at a home in a rural area east of Vancouver, according to the Vancouver Fire Department.

The fire was reported at 6:10 p.m.  at 22340 N.E. 58th St., in the Proebstel area, and the first crew arrived to find heavy, black smoke coming from two adjoining shop buildings, the fire department reported.

A large volume of fire kept firefighters from entering the buildings, leaving them to apply water from the outside and work to prevent the fire from spreading to other structures on the property, the fire department reported.

“The remote location of the fire presented water supply issues that required three water tenders to travel a mile and a half to the nearest hydrant for resupply,” the department said. “Firefighters protected other structures on the property, but could not save the shop buildings.”

Three fire engines, 15 firefighters and two battalion chiefs responded to the blaze, as well as an engine from East County Fire & Rescue and two water tenders from Clark County Fire District.

No injuries were reported and no one was displaced as a result of the fire. The fire is under investigation by the Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office.
