A duplex fire just north of Vancouver Mall on Wednesday has displaced a family.

Vancouver firefighters were dispatched at 11:25 a.m. to 5200 N.E. 85th Ave. for the report of a multi-unit residential structure fire.

The first arriving crew found a duplex ablaze. Flames were billowing from the front door of the two-story home, according to a Vancouver Fire Department press release.

Crews had the fire under control in about 20 minutes, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.

No one was home when the fire started. No firefighters were injured during the response.

Extensive heat damage has rendered the home uninhabitable. The Red Cross was called in to assist the displaced family with housing.
