Boys basketball: Woodland 60, Mark Morris 49

The Woodland boys basketball team got off to a hot start, ending Mark Morris’ long playoff streak with a a 60-49 win in a 2A Greater St. Helens League tiebreaker game Wednesday in Ridgefield.

Woodland advances to play a district play-in game at Aberdeen at 6 p.m. Thursday. The winner of that loser-out game will open the district tournament at Columbia River on Saturday.

Mark Morris will miss the postseason for the first time in 51 years.

The Beavers jumped out to a 23-11 after one quarter and led 33-19 at halftime.

The Monarchs cut the deficit to 39-32 after three before the Beavers pulled away.

Trey Hanson scored 18 points, hitting 8 of 8 free throws, and Isaiah Flanagan had 15 points for Woodland.

Ashton Harvey led the Monarchs with 13.
