Mom, family win new roof

LA CENTER — Kayla Marshall and her family recently won a new roof worth $10,000 from local company IBEX Roof, 7929 N.E. St. Johns Road. Dealer’s Supply, a supplier to IBEX, held a fundraiser in October after an employee’s daughter was diagnosed with leukemia, according to Sam Etter, who works in marketing at IBEX. The supplier auctioned off roof packages containing enough shingles to redo the average roof. Local companies could purchase the package for more than it was worth and the funds would go toward paying for the girl’s medical treatment. IBEX bought some packages to help, Etter said. The company then posted a contest to its Facebook page asking people why they could use a new roof. Out of 21 comments, Marshall’s was drawn; she said they had been in the house for “7 years and have needed a roof the whole time. With time and money, we just haven’t been able to do it.” The roof was completed on Jan. 23.
