Yurts, cabins reopening at Oregon Coast state parks

Oregon state park officials are offering campers a Christmas Eve gift: reopened yurts and cabins on the coast.

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department announced Thursday that reservations are now available for yurts and cabins at coastal campgrounds, though they won’t actually open until January.

The indoor lodging options have been closed on the coast since March, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The parks department has been quietly reopening cabins at select parks across the state in recent months, but the coastal accommodations have remained closed.

Not all campgrounds on the coast will reopen their yurts and cabins at the same time, the parks department said. Most will open on Jan. 2, with others opening on Jan. 10 and 15. Park campgrounds that are currently closed will not be reopening their yurts and cabins with the others.

Reservations can be made up to 30 days in advance at stateparks.oregon.gov, but new rules for reservations will now be in place, including a two night minimum stay and a “resting day” between campers to allow park staff to properly clean.

Here’s the schedule for parks to reopen their yurts and cabins in 2021:

Jan. 2:

Beverly Beach

Bullards Beach

Fort Stevens

Harris Beach

Jessie M. Honeyman

South Beach

Sunset Bay

Umpqua Lighthouse

William Tugman

Jan. 10:

Nehalem Bay

Jan. 15:

Cape Lookout
