A Monday night fire at a Sifton-area home displaced four people.

Vancouver Fire Department crews were dispatched at 6:48 p.m. to the 9100 block of Northeast 136th Avenue for a report of a residential structure fire.

The first crew arrived in about five minutes after dispatchers received a 911 call. Upon arrival, they found a two-story house with heavy flames licking from the back and side, fire department spokesman Bryan Fredrickson said.

The crew pulled a water hose and began battling the blaze from outside the house. Firefighters reported heavy fire on the second floor of the house. A total of nine units were dispatched to the scene, Fredrickson said.

Firefighters entered the house and reached the second floor. Their search was initially hampered by high heat and dense smoke, according to the fire department.

The fire was under control in about a half-hour.

Four residents were displaced; one was treated at the scene for burns but declined to be taken to a hospital. There were no additional reports of injuries. The American Red Cross is assisting the family, Fredrickson said.

Several crews stayed on scene for more than four hours to clean up the debris and make sure hot spots were doused.

The Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.
