Landslides, high water close Oregon roads

The National Weather Service issued flood warnings in much of Western Oregon Sunday afternoon as heavy rains continued to fall.

The weather service warned of possible mild flooding in most of the Willamette River tributaries from Lane to Clackamas counties. Also likely to top their banks are Mary’s River near Philomath, the Santiam River near Jefferson in Linn County and the Siuslaw River near Mapleton.

Already, some roads were closed Sunday night.

Oregon Highway 153 was completely closed Sunday evening due to high water two miles east of its intersection with Oregon Highway 18 in Yamhill County. In the Columbia River Gorge, the Historic Columbia River Highway was closed by a landslide between Bridal Veil and Ainsworth state parks.

Clackamas River Drive between Oregon 213 and Springwater Road was blocked, also by a landslide.
