Clark County recorded 115 new COVID-19 cases and two new deaths Thursday as hospitalizations surged by nearly 27 percent.

Clark County Public Health reported that the number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 rose to 76, up from 60 the day before. The number hospitalized awaiting test results rose to six, up from three the day before. The percentage of hospital beds occupied by people with or suspected of having COVID-19 rose to 12.8 percent, up from 9.8 percent Wednesday.

The increase in hospitalizations came as the county reported one new confirmed death, a man age 80 or older with underlying conditions, and one suspect death, a woman age 80 or older with no underling conditions, according to Public Health.

The COVID-19 death toll is at seven since Friday and 134 since the pandemic began, according to Public Health data. Fifteen people died in an eight-day period that ended Dec. 11

The new COVID-19 cases bring the county’s total to 11,433 cases to date. The county has been averaging about 134 new cases a day since Dec. 11, down from an average of about 178 cases per day in the eight days that ended Dec. 11, according to Public Health data.

The number of active cases, which tracks people with COVID-19 who are still possibly contagious and in their isolation period, was nearly unchanged, at 842 cases, according to Public Health data.
