Even though Vancouver had some light rain Tuesday and Wednesday, as of 4 p.m. Wednesday we were still nearly an inch and a half below average. High pressure to our east held strong and delayed the weather system as well as wringing out moisture that never fell. It did rain all day along the Washington Coast on Tuesday with an inch of rain in the gauges there.
We have a series of weather systems lined out in the Pacific, but there are areas of higher pressure as well that may weaken some. The plan is: showers returning by this evening or tonight lingering off and on Friday. Another low pressure is forecast Saturday night and Sunday. Earlier it looked rather impressive with perhaps some moderate to heavy rain, but now, not even the frogs are excited.
Looking beyond the weekend, forecast models show another impressive low Monday and Tuesday with possible heavy rain and mountain snows and windy conditions along the coast. I hope the frogs won’t be disappointed on that go-around. We’ll see.
As you know, the chances of a white Christmas here in the lowlands are usually slim, like 4 or 5 percent probability. Diving deeper into long-range forecast maps, some indicate a colder regime Christmas week. Of course, that is one ingredient, cold — we also need moisture. So, we’ll see, but best to keep dreaming of a white Christmas for now.
