Clark County reported 210 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday as testing data from mid-November showed a surge in positive tests, according to Clark County Public Health.
The county also announced that it has adjusted its death totals as the state modifies its definitions for classifying confirmed and suspected deaths. It reported that the current number of confirmed and suspect deaths totals 115, with 102 confirmed deaths and 13 suspect deaths.
Public Health did not provide details about the fatalities reported Tuesday.
Under the changes, a death will be counted as a “suspect death” if COVID-19 is not listed as a contributing factor on the death certificate but wasn’t ruled out as cause of death, and that the person had tested positive for COVID-19 within 28 days of their death. The time span had been 60 days since a positive test.
A confirmed death is when COVID is listed as cause of death or contributing factor on the death certificate and the case has a positive COVID test.
“This definition is not changing, but the state will be removing confirmed deaths with records that have not been finalized,” Public Health said in a statement on social media Tuesday. “These deaths will likely be added back to the total in the coming days/weeks once the records have been finalized.”
As a result, Clark County Public Health has removed seven deaths from its total (five confirmed and two suspect) while reporting 10 new deaths (seven confirmed and three suspect) that occurred in recent days.
