The thoroughness of first responders prevented a fire from causing major damage to a Camas home on Saturday night.
At 9:13 p.m., crews from the Camas-Washougal Fire Department were called to 3427 N.W. McMaster Dr. for what was initially deemed a low-priority call.
The initial blaze, which had spread from a back-porch barbecue, was quickly extinguished. But further investigation found the fire had spread into the attic space of a back-patio roof.
That prompted a more involved response, with CWFD crews being joined by units from the Vancouver Fire Department and East County Fire and Rescue. Fire personnel were on the scene for more than three hours.
Crews stopped the fire from reaching the main structure of the house, which is valued at more than $1 million.
