Vancouver police responded late Friday night to Frenchman’s Bar Regional Park after a fight broke out between two groups of people at the beach.

Officers were dispatched at 11:58 p.m. to 9612 N.W. Lower River Road for a report of a shooting heard in the area.

Two groups were at the beach; some of the people in each group knew each other. A fight started between two men, and then several women also began fighting, Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said. Someone fired a shot in the air, apparently to stop the brawl, Kapp said.

No one reported being struck by the gunfire, and there were no serious injuries.

Police arrived and located one of the men involved in the fight; he was arrested on suspicion of fourth-degree assault. Kapp did not identify the man.

Police are continuing to investigate.
