A passenger was seriously injured Sunday morning when the motorcycle she was riding on collided with a deer in Washougal.

Clark County sheriff’s deputies and medical personnel were called shortly before 11:30 a.m. to the 39200 block of Northeast Vernon Road, a two-lane, winding, rural road near the Skamania County line.

Jason Doody and his wife, Jennifer, no city of residence provided, were leading a group of eight motorcycles south on Vernon Road when a deer crossed the road in front of them. The motorcycle hit the deer, killing it, and the couple were thrown from the motorcycle, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

A motorcycle behind them also crashed, and the operator was injured, the sheriff’s office said.

Jennifer Doody suffered critical injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Jason Doody was also injured but not taken to a hospital, the news release states.

The sheriff’s office traffic unit is investigating the crash.
