Drivers should expect to encounter nighttime lane closures and longer bridge lifts on the Interstate 5 Bridge in the coming week, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation. Cyclists and pedestrians may also encounter intermittent closures of the northbound bridge sidewalk, and will need to detour to the sidewalk on the southbound bridge.
The lane closures will occur Aug. 27 through Sept. 3 in both directions of I-5, with single-lane closures starting at 9 p.m. and second-lane closures starting at 10 p.m. All lanes are expected to be open by 5 a.m. the following morning.
Drivers should expect to be stopped for up to 30 minutes for intermittent nighttime bridge closures between the hours of 12 a.m. and 5 a.m. Saturday.
There will also be intermittent nighttime single-lane closures weeknights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. in both directions on the Interstate 205 Glenn Jackson Bridge.
The closures are all part of the preparation work for the Interstate 5 Bridge trunnion replacement project, which will close the entire northbound span Sept. 12-20.
