Weather Eye: Hints of fall pop up ahead of a week of summer reign

The forecast for the upcoming week is simple: mostly sunny and warm with highs of 80 to 85 degrees. No rain in sight. Once again, some forecast models hint of another trough of low pressure toward the end of the week, but at this time I am ignoring it. Summer reigns.

Did you enjoy the brief respite from the heat with those clouds and showers? I know it made for slippery roadways with all the foam from oils and such. Got to remember that after a period of no rain. I doubt it did anything to water your lawn or garden. Settled the dust, mainly, and added a fresh and pleasant aroma in the air.

Officially, Vancouver received about a tenth of an inch, which was expected. Now, I did hear from a couple of you in the foothills that had a real downpour or two and a quarter-inch of rain. Good for you! Helps to keep the local wildfires at bay. Outside of our county there are plenty of wildfires going on. Seems like an annual ritual.

Our monthly rainfall total is about a third of an inch, and our average mean temperature is running nearly 2 degrees above average. With eight days to go it is unlikely we add more wetness in the rain gauge except that weak possibility next weekend.

Our high of 77 degrees Friday was the fifth reading this month with a high only in the 70s. To round it out, four days in the 90s and the rest in the 80’s. I think we have no complaints. I will say that signs of fall are certainly in the air.

Several readers have shared that they can feel a change in the air and see changes in the foliage.

I drove to the coast Friday and I couldn’t believe all the trees along the highway that are changing colors. Bright yellows, fire red on the vine maples. Overall a less than shiny green on many. I would have thought it was early September.

Meanwhile, enjoy the next several days as summer continues at a modest pace and temperatures that make living easy. Take good care.
