Letter: Rally was a success

By Tana Aichele, Ridgefield

Writing in response to Nancy Schultz’s letter, “Honor police by wearing mask” (Our Readers’ Views, Aug. 13): She said she saw two pictures of the rally, which I presume she saw in The Columbian accompanying the article “Community members rally for Ridgefield police,” which caused her to conclude that only one or two people were wearing masks.

I was at this rally and the overwhelming majority of people were wearing masks. I was disappointed by the article and pictures chosen as both painted a skewed picture of the rally. Neither captured the spirit, respect and focus of the rally.

It wasn’t about a march, or making a statement or taking any stands. Rather it was a group of citizens gathering together to express appreciation and support the best way we knew to our local police officers. To that end I believe the rally was successful, safe, and satisfying.
