Clark County Public Health adds 45 COVID-19 cases to total, updates age data

Clark County Public Health this morning added 45 COVID-19 cases to the county’s total. The agency also updated patient age data for the first time since early July.

Clark County has had 1,991 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus since early March. Forty people have died; no new deaths have been reported since Friday.

On Monday, 107 cases of the disease were reported, followed by 61 Tuesday. Last week the county confirmed 146 new cases.

Public Health also released a breakdown of cases by age as of Monday. The largest cohort of cases in Clark County falls in the 30-39 age range, at 18.8 percent, followed closely by people in their 20s, at 18.7 percent. The smallest groups include people 80 and older, 4.1 percent; ages 70 to 79, 4.9 percent; and 0 to 9 years, 5.1 percent. The agency said it plans to update this data weekly going forward.

More than half the deaths in Clark County — 23 — have been among those 80 and older.

As of Wednesday, 18 people are hospitalized at Legacy Salmon Creek or PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for treatment of COVID-19, with another seven hospital patients waiting on tests results to confirm their diagnosis. Some 56.7 percent of hospital beds in Clark County are currently occupied — 4 percent by novel coronavirus patients.

Statewide, 59,379 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19; 1,619 have died. More than 1 million people in Washington have been tested for the disease with 5.9 percent of tests coming back positive. The death rate in the state is 2.7 percent, according to the Washington State Department of Health.
