The Trauma Recovery Network of Southwest Washington is offering pro bono trauma counseling services to first responders because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Trauma Recovery Network is a group of mental health therapists prepared to help survivors of disasters recover from traumatic stress by providing about three free therapy sessions, according to a press release.

Additional free sessions may be arranged between the client and the individual therapist. The network offers Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, developed to help people suffering from traumatic stress and post-traumatic stress disorder.

EMDR therapists work with individuals in a one-on-one counseling setting, telemental health setting, or in groups depending on the situation and a variety of considerations. This does not require extensive talking about the traumatic incident, according to the press release.

For Washington’s stay-at-home order, you can utilize sessions via telemental health on HIPAA secure teleconferencing platforms. Once the order is lifted face-to-face sessions can return.

Visit traumarecoverywa.org for more information, or to contact someone about a session.
