A 30-year-old man is facing a vehicular homicide allegation in a Friday crash that killed his passenger in east Vancouver.

Officers were dispatched around 7:30 p.m. to the 500 block of Southeast 164th Avenue for a report of an injury crash involving a vehicle into a concrete barrier.

The driver, Shawn M. Nelson, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide and driving under the influence, Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said in an email.

“The female passenger of the vehicle was transported from the scene to an area hospital where she later died,” Kapp said.

The woman who died was not immediately identified.

Nelson is scheduled to make a first appearance this morning in Clark County Superior Court.

The police department’s traffic unit is continuing to investigate the fatal crash, Kapp said.
