Weather Eye: More rainy weather is heading our way over the weekend

The light rain moved in around 6 a.m. Wednesday and fell intermittently most of the day. Lots of clouds. As of 4 p.m. Vancouver had reported about a quarter-inch of rainfall with a few showers expected overnight.

We should clear up a bit later today and enjoy a brief break in the weather action through most of Friday. Another stronger weather system will provide more rain by Saturday and yet another storm late Sunday into Monday. We play catch-up in the rainfall department.

Vancouver’s monthly rain total as of late Wednesday afternoon was .67 of an inch, about 1.75 inches below average. If we get some heavier rain over the weekend, which is quite possible, we can erode that amount. Will we catch up? Longer-range weather charts indicate perhaps some warm and dry weather next week after Monday. Maybe another 70-degree day? I’m thinking so.

Wednesday’s storm and the next two over the weekend is a pattern change compared to what we were enjoying. I have no complaints because we really need the rain. Will it last? I mentioned here the other day that government officials were reporting we would have warmer and drier weather well into June. Our drought slides onward.

I did notice, however, that the warm “blob” is reappearing. Remember the blob? A large pool of warm water in the Gulf of Alaska. This time it is positioned farther west than previous episodes.

When it was present before we had lots of clouds and rain. Since it is farther west, I don’t know how that will affect our weather patterns but something to keep a weather eye on.
