WOODLAND — Long-haul trucker Russell Thomas was on the road to deliver 52 cases of sandwiches and knew that Woodland High School, closed due to the coronavirus, had opened its facilities for use by truckers who were traveling Interstate 5 corridor. But it turned out that Thomas’ client refused a shipment of the frozen breakfast sandwiches. Instead, Thomas gave them to Woodland Public Schools to use in its daily food service. “I’m just so grateful to the district for helping truckers,” he said in a news release. “I wanted to help Woodland’s students and community.” He delivered them directly to the district’s middle school, where food prep takes place for the “2,000-plus meals served to children in need every weekday during the statewide school closure,” according to the release. Business manager Stacy Brown said the number of sandwiches supplied more than 1,000 meals for the community’s children.
