Vancouver police officers chased a wanted person Thursday afternoon onto Interstate 5 south and into Portland.

The wanted driver was spotted by a Vancouver detective, police department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said in an email. Police started pursuing the driver somewhere near Fourth Plain Boulevard, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian. Radio traffic indicated the suspect was driving a stolen Honda and has warrants.

As the suspect approached St. Johns Boulevard, police contacted troopers for assistance, according to the radio traffic.

The suspect drove south over the Interstate 5 Bridge and into Portland. The pursuit reached speeds of up to 90 mph, according to the radio traffic.

The driver slowed down considerably before jumping out of the vehicle and running away near Exit 304, according to the radio traffic. Police detained a passenger who was in the Honda during the chase, Kapp said.

There were no crashes as a result of the pursuit, she said.

Portland Police Bureau officers responded to the Piedmont neighborhood, just east of I-5 in north Portland, and set up a perimeter from the freeway to North Mississippi Avenue and from North Buffalo to North Bryan streets, according to a police briefing posted on Twitter.

The driver was apprehended a short time later in someone’s yard, according to Portland police. They were not immediately identified.
