CLARK COUNTY — One week before the sixth annual Couve Clover Run was scheduled to happen, events with more than 250 people were ordered to cancel due to COVID-19. The Clover Run, typically stretching through a few Vancouver neighborhoods, usually has about 2,000 participants. Event organizer Sherri McMillan decided to take the March 22 event virtual. “We realized we could still accomplish our mission even though we couldn’t be together physically with our athletes,” McMillan said in a news release. Nearly 1,500 people completed the virtual event. Participants had the option to run solo or with their family. Many dressed up in costume or in green. An official race video showed athletes running through empty streets and setting up a mock finish line. The event raised almost $4,000 for the Foundation of Vancouver Public Schools and Share. Why Racing is even hosting a virtual awards ceremony to congratulate the overall champions. “We weren’t together physically but clearly we came together in spirit. It’s a great reminder of what we all did together during a very challenging time in our world,” McMillan said. Race results are available online.
