Wintler Community Park is closing in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, effective today.
The closure will remain in place through May 4. The property, managed by Vancouver Parks and Recreation, is located at 6400 Beach Drive and is a popular destination due to its beach access.
The closure impacts the park, parking lot, restroom and beach. The portion of the Columbia River Renaissance Trail that ends at the park will remain open. Users are urged to practice 6-foot social distancing in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations.
“We want to be able to keep parks and trails open but that can only happen when people are following CDC guidelines for safety in public spaces,” Parks and Recreation Director Julie Hannon said in a press release. “The health of our community is our top priority right now, and there are too many people not taking public health guidelines seriously while using outdoor spaces. We will continue to monitor all of our parks and take whatever measures are needed to keep them safe.”
The Vancouver Police Department will also educate people regarding the closure when patrolling the area.
